Jackson Park Housing Area and Naval Hospital

Pictured here is the current day Jackson Park residential housing area, as well as the secured Naval Hospital Bremerton area to the North (top of picture). This was not always the purpose for this area though. Once, the US Navy used this land as an arms and ammunition storage facility. About 50 years ago, the process began to convert this area into a housing facility for Navy personnel and their families. The hospital is a VA Hospital serving veterans and the community.
The aging sanitary sewer system for this housing facility and the hospital has reached a state of disrepair, and currently needs various work performed ranging from spot repair to full on removal and replacement with new sewer pipe. The project presents challenges on multiple fronts. To begin with, the facility’s history and use in its prior life means that now, excavation must occur with an Unexploded Ordinance Technician overseeing operations. It is important that construction proceed safely for both the residents and the project team. There are 72 individual pipe runs that will be worked on as a part of this project, impacting residents over the course of a little under 1 year. Communication with residents and property management is imperative to maintain a good relationship as the construction work disrupts the normal day-to-day routine of this area.
In the end, Tunista Construction will be happy to have improved and updated the Sanitary Sewer utilities at Jackson Park and the Naval Hospital, serving our active duty Navy personnel and their families for years to come.
