P-834 Seawolf Class Service Pier Extension

Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor
Silverdale, WA

At Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, it was time for the Seawolf Class Service Pier to be retrofitted. NAVFAC Northwest set out to upgrade the Navy service pier, with the intention of improving crane capabilities for the pier as well as adding and improving workspace for the support staff on site. The area was also in sore need of additional parking capacity and infrastructure to accommodate the additional service men and women who will now be adding to the current staff at the Seawolf pier and crane facility.

Manson Construction was the awarded prime contractor, with Tunista Construction as the primary Civil contractor on the team. Not only providing new utility installation for the pier, Tunista also took on the majority of the scope at the Uplands portion of the project.

An entire new parking facility was installed as a part of this contract, as well as utilities to support the installation of new work buildings. Utilities included stormwater upgrades, (3) large design build storm detention galleries beneath the new parking lot, new sanitary sewer main, and new domestic and fire water main installation. Tunista also handled the construction of a large concrete retaining wall and stairs, handrail, sidewalks, and all earth moving and grade preparation prior to paving.

Currently, the underground utility work at the pier is complete, and the Uplands scope of work is nearing completion in the spring of this year, 2022.
